ABSTRACT
Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is susceptible plant to plant disease infection. One of the plant disease is powdery mildew caused by Podosphaera xanthii. Breeding for resistance is one solution to overcome the disease by the crossing of Andes and PI 371795. The breeding experiment has resulted F2B2 and Melodi Gama 1 cultivars which have resistance gene to powdery mildew and virus. The aim of the research was to study the resistance respons stability of F2B2 and Melodi Gama 1 cultivars to Podosphaera xanthii infection.
The research methods used 5 seeds of F2B2 and Melodi Gama 1 which were inoculated with Podosphaera xanthii. Treatment given to the plant was sprayed and given organic fertilizer without fungicida. The Podosphaera xanthii infection was observed using scorring method.
The result shows that 20% melon F2B2 is susceptible, while 100% Melodi Gama 1 is resistance to Podosphaera xanthii infection. The result of study revealed that Melodi Gama 1 has fully resistance to Podosphaera xanthii infection, while F2B2 has segregation.
Key word: Powdery mildew, Podosphaera xanthii, F2B2 , Melodi Gama 1
